Service Model vs Organizing Model

Unions are the organization of working people that gives them voice and muscle in their role as workers.

When a union is run like an organization that is simply trading Union Dues for Union Services, such as Grievance Handling and Contract Negotiations then it is significantly less powerful than an Organizing Union. This is because a Service Union inadvertantly takes the power away from where the only power in a union is, its members.


Unions are starting to focus on new approach... as Labor Notes wrote about in "Labor Needs a New Approach to Organizing.... But Members Must Be a Part of It
